Chamberlain

On the national level, a chamberlain is a personal advisor and confidant to a titular ruling head or heads; a similar position exists at the local level as well. Chamberlains—named in part for their practice of giving advice behind closed doors, in private chambers—give

counsel and lend expertise to executives and policy- makers. In some cities, the chamberlain has direct,

personal authority in various proceedings, in order to ensure a more efficient government.
