INT temple to Pelor
Int Temple in Sunnyvale
The early hours of the morning the only the lights of Lunarus, Selendria, and Zephera illumiate the night sky. No bird song can be heard. Sera, appearing in her gold and blue vestments. The leather binding on a large prayer book creaks and Sera annoints your forehead with a mixture of water, honey, and saffron. Leaving a red streak accross your brow. She beings to read from the Light of Pelor, and recites a prayer you are familiar with. One that you have recited often since that night before Matthias's funeral. Her words echo into your ears and as you recite them in your mind you feel the sunlight on your face.
You are pulled to a familiar memory. The memory of your mother Alice embracing you one last time before you leave with Vincent to study at the temple of Pelor in Epoch. You are only 11 and the world seems so big. As she hugs you to her you smell jasmin in her hair and somehow all the worry and fear of leaving home ebbs from your body.
The warmth of her embrace lingers as she holds you at arms length and looks at you. Her eyes a bright mirror of your own, and tears streak her face. "I knew this day would come and tried to prepare myself, but it's not any easier." Her finger touches the scar on your eyebrow. "I never regretted it for one day." She said, her words confusing to your young mind but her gaze fixes on yours. "You are my greatest creation and I know you are destined for glory. I know you will make me proud, my dear boy."
You feel Vincent's hand on your shoulder and you look up to him seeing him looking at your mother, Alice. "He will be taken care of, I promise." He touches her shoulder gently. "May Pelor have mercy on you."
You struggle to hold on to the image as you board the boat from Sunnyvale. You wished you would have held onto this longer. If only you'd have known this would be the last time you saw Alice before she died later that week. But that wasn't the last time you saw her, you think to yourself as you are plunged back into the River Styx, failing among the lost soul's as the bearded devils spear the damned. The memory has been like a dream until now. Fragmented. "Why did you come here? Where was your reward? But you see your mother, shining above the black waters, her hands outstretched.
"Otto Sunero." Sera's voice coming from her lips. "Do you renounce your misdeeds and willingly walk a path in the Sun's light?
The expierience has left you drained, but your faith has never felt stronger. The memory of your breif time in hell is no longer in shadow. You know that your mother didn't save you from damnation... she took your place.
